Shogun Tsuru Katana

Part of a New Series of Shogun Katanas, handcrafted by expert craftsmen in a small town nestled in the Longquan Mountain Range of China's Zhejiang province, where the tradition of skilled sword making began over 2,000 years ago. Every part of this sword is expertly crafted by highly skilled smiths using a centuries-old method. The blade is forged from 1095 high carbon steel and differentially clay-tempered using traditional methods, with the spine Rock welling in the 45-48 HRC range and the harder cutting edge at 56-58 HRC. This ancient tempering method creates the hamon - the hard visible line left when the clay is removed. Extremely sharp, an excellent cutter, each blade is honed to cleanly cut through a sheet of paper before it leaves the factory, which it does.

Functionality wise it feels solid, designed for tameshigiri, controlled cutting exercises, ceremonial use, collectors and enthusiasts. The tsuba, collar and pommel are crafted of brass and have an aged finish, all feature the Crane, the ancient Japanese symbol of good fortune, longevity and peace. (Japanese mythology claimed the Crane lived for a thousand years). The grip is genuine Rayskin wrapped with cord. The wood scabbard is painted black with an eye-catching glossy sheen. Includes a cotton storage bag and a traditional maintenance kit in a wooden box for cleaning and blade polishing.
